What is laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive treatment that can reduce wrinkles, scars, and blemishes on the face and body. Using advanced laser technology, Dr. Brooks and staff can improve the overall health of your skin with extreme precision, especially in more delicate areas of the face.
Laser skin resurfacing treatments can improve:
How does laser skin resurfacing work?
At Boise Dermatology & Medspa, we utilize the Palomar 1540 fractional laser, the SmartXide DOT fractional CO2 laser, and the PicoSure laser system. All of these devices send short, concentrated pulsating beams of energy at skin imperfections to repair damaged skin. This energy also stimulates new collagen and elastin growth, which keep the skin hydrated and elastic. As your treated skin heals, the new skin that forms will be smoother, tighter, and younger-looking.
The Palomar 1540 fractional laser is a revolutionary type of laser that splits up light energy into 470 high-precision microbeams. These microbeams create deep, narrow columns in the skin and penetrate the lower layers to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and cause new, healthy tissue to form.
SmartXide DOT is the latest innovation in micro-ablative skin resurfacing. This carbon dioxide (CO2) laser removes outer layers of damaged skin to reveal the underlying surface. CO2 lasers are one of the most commonly used laser skin resurfacing skin options.
PicoSure is an FDA-cleared treatment for benign pigmented lesions, wrinkles, and acne scars. PicoSure is the first generation of aesthetic lasers that do not rely solely on heat to burn away hyperpigmentation. Instead of building up heat, PicoSure delivers rapid energy (in trillionths of a second) to break up the unwanted pigment in your skin without damaging the surrounding skin.
What can I expect during treatments?
With laser skin resurfacing, there is no special prep and the treatment typically takes about 10-15 minutes. Most patients experience no pain and describe the treatments as feeling like the snapping of a rubber band against their skin. Before the procedure, we will apply a topical numbing cream to your skin so that you will feel as comfortable as possible.
After your treatment, you may experience 1-3 hours of minor swelling and redness. Because these laser systems do not damage the surface of your skin, you can apply make-up moisturizers, and sunscreens immediately following your treatment.
What should I expect from the results?
Results will vary, but you may see improved results shortly after your first treatment. As new collagen begins to remodel, you will see continued improvement to the treated areas for the next three months.* When you come in for your consultation at Boise Dermatology & Medspa, we will create an effective treatment regimen for your specific goals. Most patients receive 3-5 sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart.
